Maya has developed her love for music and performing since she was a young child. Maya’s captivating studio recordings and music videos have acquired national attention on CBC Radio, Roundhouse Radio and other social media outlets around the world. Besides singing, Maya is also a student of the double bass and piano. She is an experienced live performer, busker and musician with a passion for music and performing. Maya is inspired by musicians like Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and modern day artists like Megan Trainor, Ed Sheeran, The Beatles and Adele. Maya has performed on many stages and various venues including The Vancouver Jazz Festival 2013, Jazz Vespers, Pyatt Hall and Blue Frog Studios. She has shared the stage with prominent artists and musicians such as Cecile Larochelle, Tim Tamashiro, Jodi Proznick, Tilden Webb, Luis Giraldo, Jesse Cahill, Eli Bennett, Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, Jaclyn Guillou, and the cast of the YTV Television Show Some Assembly Required. In March of 2016, Maya participated in the Women in Jazz Series with Vancouver Coastal Jazz and is finalizing production of several new and exciting recordings. Maya’s holiday recording “I’m Still Waiting For Christmas” continues to win awards including the Top 10 Holiday Tunes of 2015 on Airplay. Maya believes that music can contribute to making important social change in the world and she is passionate about using her voice in contribution towards social justice. In 2015, she helped raise awareness and more than $13,000 for Nepal Earthquake Victims and just months later Maya shared her music in Voices Into Action, a social justice event inspiring youth to get engaged in human rights. In April 2016, Maya shared her music and performance for a fund raiser for the settlement of two Syrian Refugee Families who are arriving in Vancouver later this year.
